Cannabis Studies Certificate (CANB-CC)

The Cannabis Studies certificate program will explore the legal challenges confronting cannabis farming, production, and consumer use, and provide instruction in cannabis cultivation techniques and cannabinoid/THC extraction processes. Students will study the farming economics of land, labor, and capital; governmental regulations and laws affecting small business; and developing opportunities in Western and alternative medicines and therapies. The 18-credit certificate includes classes in horticulture, law and policy, alternative medicine, botany, business, and communications.

Learning Outcomes: 

Learners who complete the Cannabis Studies Certificate will: 

  • Understand the common challenges with cannabis production and how to address those challenges. 
  • Understand the process for growing cannabis and techniques of seeding, cloning cuttings, pruning and planting, postharvest handling, and cannabinoid/THC extraction. 
  • Be able to describe the legal challenges confronting cannabis farming, production, and consumer use. 
  • Understand how to develop an effective presentation for an informative, persuasive, or special occasion purpose talk related to the cannabis industry. 
  • Explain the relationship of business to society and the individual. This includes the interrelationships with law and politics and an understanding of governmental regulations and laws affecting small business. 
  • Recognize the major economic resources of the business production process: land, labor, and capital. Understand how to synergistically combine these for financial success. 
  • Determine methods for objectively evaluating current and future traditional western and alternative medicines and therapies.
