Joshua Moon-Johnson, Ed.D.

Campus President Joshua Moon-Johnson is an accomplished academic leader with over twenty years of experience in higher education, focused on advancing student equity, institutional effectiveness and inclusive learning environments.

Before joining CT State, Campus President Moon-Johnson served as Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at West Valley College, CA, where he led initiatives to improve academic program development, faculty support and equitable student achievement. He previously held a range of leadership positions including Vice President of Student Services at the College of San Mateo, CA, Dean of Equity and Student Services at American River College and Assistant Dean and Director of the Multicultural Student Center at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Earlier in his career, he directed the LGBTQ Center and Non-Traditional Student Center at the University of California Santa Barbara.

Campus President Moon-Johnson’s leadership is shaped by a lifelong commitment to access, diversity and social justice in higher education. He brings a strong focus on holistic student support, data-informed academic planning and cross-functional collaboration to promote institutional excellence. His professional background spans both academic and student affairs, giving him a comprehensive view of how to support students throughout their college journey.

In addition to his administrative roles, Campus President Moon-Johnson has contributed to national conversations on educational equity through research, publishing and service. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Association of California Community College Administrators and chaired the Equity and Social Justice Committee. He also previously served on the boards of the Sacramento LGBT Center and the California Student Opportunity and Access Program. He is also a published author whose works on educational equity and LGBTQ+ advocacy have contributed to national discourse in higher education.

Campus President Moon-Johnson holds a doctoral degree in Adult and Higher Education and LGBT Studies from Northern Illinois University, a master’s degree in Social Sciences with a focus on Student Affairs and Diversity from Binghamton University, a master’s in Marketing Research from the University of Alabama and a bachelor’s degree in Business from the University of South Alabama.
