Shiang-Kwei Wang, Ph.D.

Campus President Shiang-Kwei (Ellen) Wang has a strong track record in academic leadership, research, and cross-sector collaboration. She previously served as Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost at Hostos Community College, where she oversaw both academic and student affairs. As the institution’s chief academic officer, Campus President Wang worked closely with the president, faculty, and senior leadership to promote student-centered outcomes, academic innovation and operational integration.

Over the course of her career, Campus President Wang has held leadership positions at several institutions, including Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs at Harold Washington College (City Colleges of Chicago), Dean for Research at Queensborough Community College (CUNY), and Associate Dean at New York Institute of Technology, where she was also a tenured professor and Chair of the Instructional Technology Program.

Campus President Wang has led multiple grant-funded initiatives focused on equity and workforce readiness. She has served as principal investigator on major projects funded by the National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Education and Illinois Community College Board. Additionally, she led Bank of America’s TechQuity initiative, aimed at addressing racial equity gaps in technology-related career pathways.

A nationally recognized scholar in educational technology, Campus President Wang’s research focuses on STEM education, cognitive tools and pedagogical best practices. She is frequently invited to present on the instructional uses of generative artificial intelligence and has led faculty development workshops on emerging technologies. Her contributions have earned her the United Federation of Fil-Am Educators’ Outstanding Leadership in Education Award and a spot on City & State's 2024 Power of Diversity: Asian 100 list.

Campus President Wang earned her Ph.D. from the University of Georgia. She brings to Gateway a deep commitment to equity, academic excellence, and inclusive leadership.
