The Vaccination Administration course is designed for certified medical assistants seeking to administer vaccines under specific conditions. This course combines classroom instruction with simulation labs covering topics such as parenteral administration routes, the pros and cons of vaccines, and medical asepsis.

At the end of this course, students will receive a certificate of completion.

In This Course You'll Learn To:

Explain the advantages and disadvantages of the parenteral route of administration.
Identify the components of a needle and syringe, and describe their functions.
Determine the appropriate gauge and length of needles for intradermal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular injections.
Identify the tissue layers of the body used for intradermal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular injections.
Reconstitute powdered drugs for parenteral administration.
Withdraw medication from a vial and from an ampule.
Locate suitable subcutaneous injection sites.
Demonstrate the administration of a subcutaneous injection.
Identify and locate intramuscular injection sites, including:
- Deltoid
- Vastus lateralis
- Ventrogluteal
- Dorsogluteal

Admissions Requirements:

The Medical Assistant must have graduated form a postsecondary medical assisting program that is either
- accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools, or another accrediting organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or
- offered by a higher education institution accredited by an accrediting organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
To be eligible to administer vaccines in the ST of CT, a medical assistant generally must be certified by the American Association of Medical Assistants, the National Health career Association, the National Center for Competency Testing, or the American Medical Technologists.
