Nancy Prather-Johnson, M.B.A.

Dean Nancy Prather-Johnson brings more than 30 years of transformative leadership in higher education, recognized for her passionate advocacy for equitable student success and her ability to foster partnerships that strengthen both the college and the communities it serves.

Before joining CT State, she served as Pathway Dean of Business, Computer Science and IT at Tidewater Community College in Virginia, where she led the first pathway in the implementation of a “One College” model. This initiative aligned curriculum and academic resources across four campuses to ensure consistent rigor and support services. She also represented the college at the state level in developing “Transfer VA,” a statewide effort to remove barriers and improve transfer efficiency, credit applicability and degree completion for students moving between Virginia’s community colleges and universities.

Beyond her leadership roles, Dean Prather-Johnson has served on numerous community boards and as a mentor to students and colleagues across the Virginia community college system. She was also an active member of the Virginia Network of the American Council on Education’s Women’s Network, furthering her commitment to professional development and equity in leadership.

Dean Prather-Johnson holds an MBA in management and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Johnson & Wales University. Her career includes teaching, financial management and leading strategic initiatives, all grounded in collaborative and inclusive approaches that promote student engagement and close achievement gaps. She continues to be a driving force for innovation and opportunity in higher education.
