CT State Community College (CT State) announced a four percent increase in enrollment for the fall 2024 semester, marking the first year-over-year growth since fall 2012. With 36,315 credit students enrolled, this is the largest increase in students since fall 2010.  
 
“We are excited to see a significant boost in fall enrollment,” said CT State President O. John Maduko, M.D. “This growth demonstrates our commitment to providing accessible, high-quality education to a diverse student body in an inclusive environment. Our efforts in targeted recruitment and the dedication of our staff in fostering a supportive environment for students from all backgrounds have contributed greatly to this success.”
 
Notable areas of growth have included adult learners over age 25, with a 13 percent increase, and students transferring in to CT State, which increased by 11 percent. Enrollment in certificate program rose by 14% compared to fall 2023. The student population has also become more diverse, with an 11 percent increase in students identifying as Hispanic/Latine and a nine percent rise in Black/African American students.
 
The largest percentage of the fall 2024 student population is matriculated in general studies and liberal arts programs, followed by social and behavioral sciences, nursing and health careers, business and hospitality, and engineering and technology. 
 
Other Key Data Points for Fall 2024 Students:
• 67% are first generation college students
• 57% work while going to school, and 21% are parents
• 28% of students attend classes at more than one campus
• 65% take at least one remote class, and 23% of students are fully remote.
 
Connecticut’s free tuition program, which offers free community college tuition for eligible Connecticut residents, has contributed to this growth by increasing access to higher education. Approximately 67% of CT State students benefit from the program. Eligibility is not income based, but begins with completing the FAFSA.
