The Asplundh Utility Arborist Trainee program is a pre-arborist program that will provide you with the basic understanding of the skills needed to start your career in tree care.

You’ll get an overview of available careers and certifications that are part of the utility line clearance industry as well as learn basic safety and training techniques in tree trimming and tree felling, gain an understanding of temporary traffic control, electrical basics, job briefings, proper lifting techniques, and the importance of effective communication on the work site. Upon completion of the program, you will be ready for entry-level employment as a Utility Arborist Trainee at Asplundh Tree Experts, LLC.

You will take the OSHA 10-hr certification – Construction, AHA Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED certifications, ATTSA Flagger certification training and the CT DEEP Pesticide Commercial Junior Operator certification. Within the course, you will receive the OSHA 10, Junior Pesticide and Flagger certifications.

In This Course You'll Learn To:

  • identify career objectives and opportunities in the utility line clearance field
  • demonstrate effective communication and leadership skills
  • describe the importance of safety in the workplace and why it is important to follow established work procedures and policies
  • identify risks and hazards on a typical utility line clearance job site
  • explain the importance of performing an effective job briefing
  • assist in establishing effective temporary traffic control setups
  • describe proper tree trimming and tree felling techniques.
  • describe the importance of preventing injuries on the job
  • communicate and lead effectively
  • demonstrate the basics of first aid, CPR, flagging techniques, and the proper use and applications of pesticides
  • identify your rights and responsibilities under OSHA 10-HR Certification – Construction

Admission Requirements:

  • Must be at least 17 years of age (must be 18 at the time of hire)
  • GED or high school diploma
  • Valid driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one before employment (students may be required to obtain a CDL license if the position requires it). CDL information can be found here: https://portal.ct.gov/DMV/Lice...—Main-Menu
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions

Please note: Job offer is contingent upon passing a drug test and background check screening.
