Do you speak English and at least one other language? Are you looking for a career where you can use your skills to help others?
There’s a critical need for trained medical interpreters, people who help orally translate between patients and medical professionals, communicating diagnoses, treatment and medical advice, as well as relaying patient questions and concerns.
This 60-hour program can be completed in less than six months and will lay the groundwork for aspiring community interpreters–encompassing medical, educational and social services interpreting. You’ll engage in theoretical and practical instruction aimed at upholding national standards and ethical codes. The curriculum covers a range of topics and includes lectures and hands-on training. The training prerequisite for the medical interpreter’s national certification exam (CCHI or NBCMI) will be met upon completion of the course.

In This Course You’ll Learn To:
- understand comprehensively the principles and practices of community interpreting, encompassing medical, educational and social service contexts
- develop proficiency in interpreting complex concepts and specialized terminology accurately and effectively across various settings
- demonstrate knowledge and adherence to ethical standards and codes of conduct specific to the field of community interpreting
- acquire practical skills in managing interpreter roles and responsibilities, including effective communication strategies, cultural sensitivity and professional behavior
- prepare for the medical interpreter’s national certification exam (CCHI or NBCMI) through rigorous training and practice aligned with exam requirements.
Admission Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- GED or high school diploma
- Proficient in two languages including English
