The CT Security Officer Certification course is an eight-hour class taken over one to two days, covering topics including an introduction to private security, basic first aid, search and seizure, use of force and basic criminal justice. A written exam will be given during class and a score of at least 70% must be obtained to receive certification.
This course meets the State of CT Department of Public Safety requirements for the eight-hour security officer training class. Upon successful completion of this course and a passing exam score, you will be able to apply for a security officer identification card from the Special Licensing and Firearms unit of the Connecticut Department of Public Safety.
Students should bring a DMV-issued ID such as a driver driver's license, learner's permit or DMV-issued ID card (from any state). A passport is NOT approved. Receipt of a Security Officer ID Card is also contingent on the payment of additional fees to the Department of Public Safety Special Licensing and Firearms Unit. Admission Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- GED or high school diploma
- A criminal background check may be required
