The CT State Capital Fitness Center is provided to educate, support, and empower all students, staff, and faculty to improve and maintain their overall health and well-being through healthy lifestyle choices and to create a culture of wellness throughout the college community.

Capital Fitness Center is a room with treadmills, mirrored walls, elliptical, bike and more.

Release of Liability

All students, faculty, and staff must complete a liability waiver form before accessing the CT State Capital Fitness Center. Once completed, please bring your waiver to Capital Cares Food Pantry, Rm. 706, during hours of operation.

The Gateway campus Exercise Science Lab is available to students, faculty and staff during the spring and fall semesters.

Registration and Fees

The Exercise Science Lab is open to students, faculty and staff. The fee for faculty, staff and students is $25 per semester. Payments are to be made at the Payment’s Office—Room N216. Once payment has been made, bring your receipt to the Exercise Science Lab where you will complete a guest registration form and a PAR-Q+ form.

The PAR-Q+ gives the staff assurance that you have the basic health requirements to exercise. Should there be any concerns, you will need a Physician’s Clearance Form completed prior to using the facility. All medical information provided is kept confidential and locked in our Lab office. It is asked that this form be honestly and completely filled out.

Equipment

Our state-of-the-art facility includes treadmills, accent trainers, an upright bike, a recumbent bike, and an upper-body ergometer. Most cardio pieces have cell phone jacks. The resistance training equipment includes several pieces of selectorized equipment, a cable machine, two half racks, and dumbbells (5-75 lbs).

Should you have any questions about using the equipment, our experienced and knowledgeable staff will gladly help you.

Locker Rooms

The Lab is equipped with locker and shower facilities. Lockers are for day use only, and you are strongly encouraged to bring a lock. Locks and towels are not provided.

Welcome to CT State Housatonic's Fitness Center. Our mission is to provide a safe and clean workout environment for Housatonic students, faculty and staff. We are proud to offer a state-of-the-art facility at no cost to our students, faculty and staff. On occasion, we offer Zumba, kickboxing, salsa, hip hop and other classes.

In order to use the Fitness Center, you must be currently registered as an CT State Housatonic credit student, you must complete the application forms, and have a valid student photo ID. Please contact the Student Life Office at 203-332-5094 (Beacon Hall room 317) if you need more information.

Norwalk fitness center shows equipment and weights lining brightly lit workout room

The Pitney Bowes Foundation Wellness Center at CT State Norwalk is a state-of-the-art exercise facility that is committed to improving the general health and well being of all patrons. We encourage safe and effective exercise in an effort to improve one’s quality of life.

The Wellness Center is free for all CT State Norwalk faculty, staff, students, lifetime learners, security, cleaning and cafeteria personnel. You must have an affiliation with the college to use our facilities. Currently, we do not offer community memberships. Registration to use the Wellness Center entails submitting a completed New Member Packet.

Use of the Facility

All first-time members must complete a new member packet before using the Pitney Bowes Foundation Wellness Center. This packet is available at the front desk in the Wellness Center and can also be downloaded by clicking on the link above. The first page of this document is a medical form called the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q). All medical information provided is kept confidential and locked in our front office. It is asked that this form be honestly and completely filled out on both sides. The PAR-Q must be renewed every three years and qualified professional staff reserve the right to request medical clearance if deemed appropriate. Those patrons who require medical clearance cannot use the facility until clearance is received and processed. The second page requires signing off on our mandatory rules and regulations for facility usage.

All patrons must present a valid CT State Norwalk photo identification card (with barcode) upon entry of the facility. Each ID Card must also have a current semester sticker. ID cards and stickers can only be obtained from Security, located in the Atrium of the East Campus.

NOTE: Lifetime learners must present their LLI Membership Card and a photo ID. If a person does not appear on the LLI membership list provided to the Wellness Center, they will not be allowed to use the facility. The Wellness Center is not responsible for LLI membership verification.

Facility Equipment

Our state-of-the-art facility includes:

  • a semi-separate cardio room with six treadmills
  • three upright cycles
  • two recumbent cycles
  • a total body exerciser
  • four elliptical cross-trainers
  • two Adaptive Motion Trainers
  • a step mill

Our resistance training area features:

  • a complete line of weight stack machines
  • power lifting equipment
  • functional trainers
  • free weights
  • a variety of accessory training equipment

Wellness Services

Equipment Orientation
Recommended for those with little experience using fitness equipment.  A trained staff member will describe the basics on how to use the equipment in the facility.  Proper form, technique and foundations to safe and effective exercise training will also be reviewed.

This service is mandatory for any patron who is age 17 or younger.  Minors cannot use the Wellness Center until the Equipment Orientation is completed by a qualified Wellness Attendant.

Locker Rooms
Locker Rooms are to be used only by patrons of the Wellness Center. Small locker and some full-size lockers are available while using the Wellness Center. Items left overnight will be removed for your safety and ours.

Showers are available and patrons must supply their own soap and towels.

Group Fitness Courses

Group Fitness courses are open for registration. Returning students can register online at my.CTState.edu.

Group Fitness classes are a great way for you to get fit and stay fit. Our elite group of certified instructors will guarantee a safe, fun, and challenging experience for all levels of physical fitness. Group fitness classes are a great way to stay motivated and enjoy exercise. Course offerings may include yoga, pilates, boot camp, and targeted muscle group work.

How to Sign Up

All Group Fitness Courses are 0.5 credits each and are seven week courses. Many courses are transferable as physical education credits to select four year institutes.

Group Fitness Courses are considered academic and all students will receive a grade of pass or fail. This grade will appear on students transcripts. If you wish to audit the class you can do so prior to the audit deadline as indicated above.

Senior citizens can only register on designated senior registration days and will not be charged for enrollment in any of the Group Fitness Courses.

Blended Courses with Extended Studies

Some Group Fitness Courses are offered collaboratively with the non-credit division. Blended courses allow for both credit and non-credit students to attend courses offered in the academic division of the college. All students enrolled in these courses will be expected to adhere to the attendance policies assigned by the instructor. Non-credit students are not required to participate in any of the final evaluations for these courses and will not receive a grade.

Wellness Courses

For additional schedule information please refer to the CT State course catalog and course search.Wellness courses are offered as general studies electives for many academic programs.  Wellness offerings are designed as self-help courses that provide insight to behavior modification and methods to better understand health-fitness, personal wellness and nutrition.  All students who enroll in these courses will be able to apply the knowledge they learn to their daily routines.  All wellness courses are taught by faculty from the Exercise Science Program and are supported by the Pitney Bowes Foundation Wellness Center.

All wellness courses are 3 credits each and are full semester courses. Most of the courses are transferable as physical education credits to select four year institutions. Registration for these courses is no different than for any other academic course taken here at the college.

Blended Courses with Extended Studies

The Three Rivers campus Health and Wellness Center features a cardiovascular room, weight training machines, free weights and a studio for classes.

Services

Equipment Orientation
The equipment in the Three Rivers Health and Wellness Center is state-of-the-art fitness equipment and chosen for ease of use with maximum efficiency. The Health and Wellness Centers offers an orientation service designed for those who have little experience using fitness equipment.

Locker Rooms
There are locker room facilities available within the Health and Wellness Center. Lockers and locks are available for daily use.

Registration

The use of the Three Rivers Health and Wellness Center is free for all faculty, staff and students. A current release form is required to use the center. This can be obtained from the center staff.

A picture ID is required for entrance into the facility.

Facility Rules

  • Proper workout attire must be worn at all times.
  • All bags, jackets, and personal items must be stored in the locker room.
  • All weights must be re-racked after use.
  • A spotter must be used when using free weights over face, head, or chest. Clips must always be used.
  • All equipment must be wiped down after use with provided cleaner.
  • With the exception of water, no food or beverages are allowed in the fitness rooms or studio at any time.
