Capital’s Career Advancement Program (CCAP) is an innovative educational opportunity developed by CT State Capital (formerly Capital Community College) with Greater Hartford’s insurance and financial services companies. These companies recognize that you, the leaders of tomorrow, are in Capital's classrooms today. This highly effective program provides you with resources and support intended to enhance your degree and give you a competitive advantage in business.
As a CCAP scholar, the benefits you derive may include paid internships, financial support towards your associate degree, mentoring from experienced business professionals, and career exploration opportunities in the field of insurance and financial services. What are the Entrance Requirements?
- Meet cumulative GPA requirements
- Successfully complete at least 15 credits including ENG 1010 and MAT 1010
- Be a United States Citizen or permanent legal resident
- Pursue a degree that aligns with the internship opportunity being offered
- Have at least two semesters remaining at CT State Capital
- Intend to graduate with your associate degree within the next three years
What is the Process?
- Applicants submit required documents for review
- Unofficial college transcript(s) must be submitted with the application
- Selected applicants are interviewed by the business partners
- Finalists must meet each company’s employment requirements (background check, drug test, etc.)
What are the Program Benefits?
- Meet other highly motivated students
- Receive coaching and guidance from business partners and CCAP staff
- Participate in a year-round paid internship with CCAP business partners, part-time in semester and full-time during the summer
- Attend regularly scheduled professional development workshops and one-on-one coaching that will add value to your internship and prepare you for your career
- Build a diverse network of professionals and peers
What is Expected of Me?
- Maintain the required cumulative GPA throughout participation in program
- Enroll in, and complete, a minimum of nine credits per semester
- Meet as scheduled with the CCAP coordinator and business partner supervisors
- Participate in all required professional development workshops
- Participate in the required internship
- Adhere to the internship site’s employee policies and procedures
- Receive satisfactory performance evaluations from your internship supervisor
- Attend career coaching/networking sessions
- Arrange reliable transportation to and from your work location
- Graduate with an associate degree from CT State Capital within the next three years
- Serve as leadership advocate for the program among peers and potential program candidates
