Manuel Gomez, Ph.D.

Interim CEO, CT State Housatonic and CT State Quinebaug Valley

Dr. Gomez serves as the Interim Campus CEO of the Housatonic and Quinebaug Valley campuses. 

Dr. Gomez has held high-level positions including Vice President and Associate Provost roles at community colleges in Arizona and South Dakota. Before his service at CT State as Associate Vice President of Academic Operations and as Housatonic and Quinebaug Valley's Interim CEO, Dr. Gomez served as Vice President of Academic Affairs for Estrella Mountain Community College (a member of the Maricopa Colleges system). Before Estrella Mountain, he served as the Associate Provost and Registrar at National American University, collaborating with academic officers and staff to support both online and on-campus students and faculty at all university locations. His oversight included faculty evaluation, professional development, credentialing, promotion and pay structure, ensuring the quality of instruction across the university system.

Additionally, Dr. Gomez has served as a Dean at Morton College and Illinois Valley Community College, as full-time faculty at Saint John Fisher College, and as an adjunct at the University of Arizona and Pima Community College. He has taught Spanish, Latin American History and Culture and Leadership. His roles also included Director of Education and Training at the Higher Learning Commission, where he implemented curricula on general education and data analysis for faculty and staff at over 1,000 colleges and universities.

Dr. Gomez’s contributions to education extend beyond academia. He has served as Assistant Recreational Director for the Black Hills Rapids, coordinated recreational programs for youth, and held board positions in various organizations, including the Illinois Community College Board Hispanic Advisory Council, Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra, Black Hills Symphony Orchestra, Illinois Valley Youth Choir and Illinois Valley Hispanic Partnership Council. He is a dedicated United Way volunteer and consistently demonstrates his commitment to community service.

Dr. Gomez earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy with an emphasis in Spanish literature and culture from the University of Arizona and completed post-doctoral work in community college leadership at the University of Texas, Austin. He is multilingual in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
