Do you want to learn to safely operate a personal watercraft or boat?

Our boating courses are short, one- or two-day training sessions. You will learn the basics of operating personal watercraft such as jet skis, sailboats, yachts and other recreational motorized vessels up to 65 feet in length in Connecticut waters. The newest requirements for towing skiers and tubes are also covered.

The boating courses at CT State fulfill the mandatory training requirements for obtaining the  Connecticut Certificate of Personal Watercraft Operation (CPWO). Students must attend all sessions to qualify for the CPWO. The course fee does not include the one-time lifetime DEEP license fee ($50).

Admission Requirements:

  • Must be at least 12 years old
  • Students should bring a pen or pencil to class

Please Note: Students should obtain a State Conservation ID number online before the start of class. This process is free and, if you have a hunting or fishing license, then you already have a number. After your course is complete, your score will be entered into the DEEP computerized tracking system using your Conservation ID number (process may take up to a week), at which time you will be able to return to the site and use your account to purchase and print your certificate.
