Students who are covered by financial aid are allowed to charge their textbooks and supplies. Other agency programs will be allowed to charge textbooks (supplies when authorized) after approval from the Cashiers’ Office. A valid State ID or School ID with a picture will be required. You may also use your financial aid to order course materials and supplies on line.

  • What is your Refund Policy?

  • Who picks the textbooks for our courses?

The textbooks for your courses are chosen by your professors or their related department/division.

  • When is the Textbook Buyback?

Our bookstores offers a buyback at the end of every semester, typically around the week of Final Exams. Dates are posted on the bookmark that accompanies your receipt. Signs are also posted on the bulletin boards and TV monitors as well our website. However, the bookstore buys books back daily during normal operating hours.

  • I registered for the upcoming semester already why can’t I purchase my textbooks right away?

Textbooks will not always be ready at the same time that registration starts. Books need to be ordered, shipped & received. This is a time consuming process that involves receiving orders from the faculty, verifying correct title information, and availability.

  • Why are textbooks so expensive?

While textbooks are typically the least expensive part of your education many students do not understand the high prices of textbooks. Publishers often offer supplemental materials bundled with your text (CD-ROMs, Study Guides & Online Tools) which can increase the price of textbooks. Publishers report these materials are developed in response to instructors’ demand for them. The bookstores sell bundled textbooks only when required for your course.

  • Do you sell used textbooks?

Yes, the Bookstore sells used textbooks when available. Used textbooks can provide you with savings when compared to a new textbook. Used textbooks are labeled used and are available on a first come first serve basis.

  • What should I budget for textbooks and course materials?

On average we suggest a student taking four courses budget $600 per semester for books and course materials.

      • Mini-Grants

        Mini-Grants

Do you have a special assignment or project you want to incorporate into your class? Do you have an idea for a professional development opportunity? Do you have an innovative project that requires funding? The Asnuntuck Foundation is now accepting mini-grant applications.

MiniGrants are designed to fund projects that benefit students, a program, curriculum, classroom or the campus as a whole. Mini grants provide Asnuntuck students with unique opportunities that may be connected to a course or program or not.

Mini-grants of up to $1,000 are available for projects and ideas and can be awarded once and considered for renewal for more than one year based on approved Board funding and availability. Projects may be submitted by an individual staff, faculty member or by small groups. We especially encourage projects involving students, multiple faculty and staff or those which are joint efforts with community members. Grant applications are reviewed and considered by a selection committee.

        When submitting an application, please:

        • explain the project thoroughly
        • include specific details about its educational value and projected numbers served
        • show how the project enhances student learning or the campus environment
        • attach a clear and concise budget
        • explain funding from other sources if available or supplementing the activity proposed
        • provide anticipated outcomes of the project
        • please ask your dean or department head for their consent prior to submission

All mini-grant proposals will be reviewed. Mini-grant proposals that should otherwise be funded through general operating funds or other funds of the college will not be supported.

Please document any other current pending source(s) approached or utilized for funding of the project. The Foundation will reimburse individuals for mini-grant-related expenditures for which original receipts are provided as detailed in the budget. Items purchased with Asnuntuck Foundation grant funds are the property of CT State Asnuntuck, not the department or the individual.

Please complete the application following all guidelines. Include a copy of the proposed budget. Proposals, including application and budget, must not exceed three pages. Limit one application per project. Applications submitted based on retroactivity (date/time) of the project will not be considered. Applicants will be notified via email to the contact person listed on the application of a decision within 1 month of receipt of the application. Upon receipt of detailed invoices, applicants will normally receive funds within 30 days.

After completing the application, please email it to Carol LaLiberte at carol.laliberte@ctstate.edu and put "Mini-Grant Application" in the subject line.

There are five funding periods during which mini-grant proposals can be submitted and will be reviewed. The deadlines for mini-grant submissions are as follows for the fall and spring semesters:

        Deadline:

        • September 30 - notification by October 31
        • October 31 - notification by November 30
        • November 30 - notification by December 31
        • December 31 -notification by January 31
        • February 28 -notification by March 31

Mini-grant applications received after the deadline will be reviewed during the following funding cycle. Funds are limited. The later applicants apply in the fiscal year, the greater the chance that funds may not be available.

The Asnuntuck Foundation is committed to enhancing the quality of services and programs for students, faculty, and staff of the CT State Asnuntuck campus. The Foundation works to aid, strengthen, and further the work and service of our campus. It assists the campus in securing financial support for scholarships, mini-grants, college events, activities and community, student and instructor initiatives.

        How to Establish a Scholarship

        Minimum Funding Requirement: $5,000

        • Determine what study at Asnuntuck the scholarship is to fund (may be general or specific).
        • Determine criteria by which recipient is to be selected, including whether and what financial criteria are to be considered.
        • Decide preference if original terms cannot be met in perpetuity (for instance, what should happen if scholarship funds a program the college discontinues).
        • Define attribution of moneys: whether and how much goes to endowment (which is permanently restricted and by law cannot be spent; only the interest it generates) and how much is temporarily restricted (which can be spent, but only as donor preference allows). This includes defining whether future donations to this scholarship must be endowed or may be temporarily restricted.

        Example:

The {insert name of your choice} Scholarship recognizes outstanding achievement in the {insert field of your choice} and commitment to continuing study in {insert field}.

Donated funds can be endowed and reinvested until the corpus is of sufficient size to generate $250 in interest or earnings.

      Scholarship Application

An education at CT State Tunxis works for a lifetime. The scholarships that are provided to Tunxis students change lives, build futures and create hope and opportunity for years to come.

Today, more than ever before, the struggles of everyday life prevent students from experiencing the benefits of higher education. Survival has become the norm for many students – the stress of paying for rent, transportation, and groceries while battling a poor economy and skyrocketing expenses is simply overwhelming. 50% of Tunxis students require financial assistance to attend college. For a student to attend Tunxis full-time, one year’s tuition, fees, books and other expenses amount to about $4,800. A two-year degree will total close to $9,600.

Thanks to generous individuals, companies and foundations, scholarships are awarded to Tunxis students every year who may not otherwise be able to afford a quality education.

The Tunxis Foundation offers a series of scholarships to Tunxis students annually. The scholarship drive typically begins in early December, with a deadline in mid to late February. All applicants are notified by letter in April of the results of their applications.

Most scholarships are awarded in May during our Student Achievement and Recognition Ceremony. Students may use their scholarship during any of our four semesters, including online classes. The current cost of a three-credit course is $676.00; therefore, we like to set our Scholarship minimum at $676.00. Named scholarships can be made in the names of individuals, families or organizations.

We also have Sponsorship opportunities available that include sponsoring a package of 10 bus passes for a student in need or a voucher for textbooks.

To learn more about creating a scholarship and leaving a legacy, email the foundation or call 860-255-3604.

      Annual Scholarships

Scholarships donated to the Foundation on an annual basis also may be created. The minimum donation to create a scholarship is $500 per year, or $250 per semester. This would be a separate fund that the Foundation manages.

The cost of a fund where the scholarship award has specific eligibility requirements and where the entire fund is to be paid out within one year would be $1,000.

Important to Know

Academic Rigor

While the number of weeks for each accelerated session is much shorter than those of the regular fall and spring semesters, students should be aware that each course contains the same number of class hours as the regular semester. As a result, the level of study is much more intensive and demanding of time. Students should consider this in planning their time and course selection.

CSCC is a mission-driven institution focused on access to excellent educational opportunities, the promotion of equity, and the advancement of positive change for students and the communities they serve. In support of this mission, CSCC is committed to a fair, just, and timely response to reports of discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct. In accordance with federal and state regulations the CSCC Office of Equity and Civil Rights (ECR) has developed procedures to respond to such complaints.

For information regarding the nondiscrimination, disability, and Title IX policies/procedures, contact: John-Paul Chaisson-Cardenas, Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, CT State Community College, 185 Main Street, New Britain, CT 06051, 860-612-7056 or jp-cardenas@ct.edu.

The complaint procedures are informed by several Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) Board of Regents (BOR) policies and procedures, including:

Additionally, these procedures adhere to any relevant state or federal laws.

Both complainants and respondents involved in the complaint procedure have the following rights:

    • the opportunity to request that an investigation or hearing begin promptly
    • the right to have officials leading investigations or hearings who have been trained on an annual basis in the area relevant to the complaint (i.e., discrimination, harassment, and/or sexual misconduct)
    • the right to have an advisor or support person of their choosing (e.g., union representative) accompany them to any meetings or interviews throughout the process, as long as the involvement of the advisor or support person does not unduly delay, postpone or disrupt the proceedings. CSCC will provide a list of trained advisors for complainants and respondents to use in this capacity, if they choose
    • the right to present evidence and witnesses on their behalf
    • the right to receive written notice of the results of the investigation or outcome within a reasonable timeframe
    • the right to request an appeal or review of the outcome of the procedure.
  • Supportive Measures for all Parties

CSCC will provide options for supportive measures for both complainants and respondents involved in the complaint process. Upon receipt of a report involving students, the CSCC official involved with the complaint will provide contact information for relevant campus resources and services (i.e., campus counseling services, academic resources) to the student. These officials will also assist students in contacting campus resources and services as needed. All student complainants will also be provided a list of trained advisors/support persons that they may contact to assist them throughout this process, should they choose. However, they have the right to have any advisor/support person of their choosing and are not required to select someone from this list.

Upon receipt of a report involving employees, the CSCC official involved with the complaint will provide contact information for the short-term employee counseling program and for union representation as relevant.

Options for supportive measures will also be provided to respondents involved in the complaint process. When a student respondent receives a notice of allegations from the CSCC official involved with the complaint, they will be provided written contact information for relevant campus resources and services (i.e., campus counseling services, academic resources) to the student. These officials will also assist students in contacting campus resources and services as needed. All respondents will also be provided a list of trained advisors/support persons that they may contact to assist them throughout this process, should they choose. However, they have the right to have any advisor/support person of their choosing and are not required to select someone from this list.

When a respondent who is an employee receives a notice of allegations, the CSCC official involved with the complaint will provide contact information for the short-term employee counseling program and for union representation as relevant.

Supportive measures for students or employees could also include, but are not limited to:

    • counseling
    • extensions of deadlines or other course-related adjustments
    • modifications of work or class schedules
    • campus escort services
    • restrictions on contact between the parties (no contact orders)
    • changes in work or housing locations
    • leaves of absence
    • increased security and monitoring of certain areas of the campus.

It is important to note that a complainant has the right to supportive measures even if they choose not to initiate a formal complaint under these procedures.

  • Retaliation

Retaliation is prohibited per the CSCU Affirmative Action Policy. Retaliation can occur during the complaint process or at any time after the resolution of the complaint. Any concerns about retaliation should be promptly brought to the attention of the CSCC official involved with the complaint.

Retaliation occurs when a person is subjected to an adverse employment of educational action because they made a complaint under this policy or assisted or participated in any manner in an investigation. No institution or person may intimidate, threaten, coerce, or discriminate against any individual for the purpose of interfering with any right or privilege secured by Title IX or because the individual has made a report of complaint, testified, assisted or participated or refused to participate in any manner in an investigation, proceeding or hearing related to a report or complaint related to discrimination, harassment, or sexual misconduct.1

  • Other Reporting Options

Filing a report through the CSCC complaint process has no bearing on other reporting procedures. Complainants may concurrently file reports with law enforcement, other state agencies, and any other entity as appropriate to their circumstances. Complainants will also never be required to file a report with another agency in order to file a report through CSCC.
