Dr. Patricia Benson assumed the role of CEO of the Housatonic Campus of Connecticut State Community College in Bridgeport on July 12, 2024. In this role, she is responsible for the strategic direction and daily operations of the campus.

The CT State Housatonic campus serves Bridgeport High School and various surrounding high schools that reflect the diversity of the region. Housatonic also serves the rich neighborhoods of The Hollow, Brooklawn and Downtown Bridgeport and its greater area. Dr. Benson will work towards educational attainment within student success and contributions to the local workforce.

As a first-generation college graduate, Dr. Benson's career in higher education spans over two decades, with significant leadership roles that have prepared her to guide the Housatonic campus toward achieving its strategic goals.  Her pathway to CEO has been marked by exemplary achievements in fiscal management, academic affairs support, and workforce development initiatives. In her tenure she has led previous higher education institutions to financial stability, through the pandemic and expanded their reach by securing bond funding for a project launch of a new $66.5 million campus that stands as a testament to her dedication and determination.

Dr. Benson currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Delta Research and Educational Foundation Board (DREF). DREF’s mission is to identify issues affecting Black women, their families, and communities of the African Diaspora globally, and creates solutions through research, programming, and funding in support of charitable and educational programs of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and other collaborative organizations.

Looking forward, Dr. Benson’s strategic vision extends beyond campus borders into the heart of the greater Bridgeport region. Her commitment to community engagement and collaboration will be instrumental in strengthening Housatonic’s ties with local businesses, governmental agencies, and non-profits. These partnerships are crucial in aligning CT State Housatonic’s educational programs with regional workforce needs and ensuring that students are well-prepared for the jobs of tomorrow.

Dr. Benson earned her Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Hampton University, a Master of Business Administration degree in management from LaSalle University, and a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Leadership from Wilmington University.
