Come Prepared

Please bring your textbook, your assignment details, a calculator for math and any notes, drafts of essays for writing assignments, your professor’s instructions for writing assignments and specific questions for the tutor. It can also be helpful if you arrive with assignments previously evaluated by your instructor. The more work you have done and the better prepared you are, the more the tutor can assist you.

Tutors will prepare for your appointment by reviewing any materials or details you provided when scheduling. The tutor will begin each appointment by asking about your current assignment or learning goal and asking questions about the instructor’s evaluation criteria. Each student’s needs are different, so every tutoring appointment will focus on your individual needs. Tutors are here to help, so be open about what you need so we can start where you are and build from there.

Do as much work as you can in advance. This means you MUST at least attempt assignments before you come in seeking help.
Bring your class syllabus, class notes, class texts, and specific assignment instructions.
Arrive with specific questions.

Take Responsibility

Tutors will assist you as much as they can but will not do the work for you. Their goal is to help students learn strategies to become life-long, independent learners. Whatever assistance the tutor provides, you are responsible for the quality of your own work and your professor ultimately determines your grade. Working with a tutor is an excellent choice but is no guarantee of achieving any particular grade or even passing the class.

How to Make a Tutoring Appointment – Video Instructions

Schedule a Tutoring Appointment Online

Step 1

Log in to TracCloud using your CT State login credentials and click to expand the box titled “Schedule an Appointment.”

Step 2

Select the class you’d like help with, and then select the campus, and click "Search."

Note: “Other” is best used for general help with technology, study skills and other general assistance.

Step 3

Select a reason for tutoring from the pop-up box and click “OK" and then click "Search."

Step 4

View the availabilities and select your preferred slot.

Note: Availabilities will be color-coded by type (one-on-one, group tutoring, etc.) and will display icons for location (in-person, online, or an option of either one).

Step 5

Select your meeting type if you have a choice (in-person or online), and write a note in the notes box about what you’d like help with so the tutor can prepare for the appointment. Click "Confirm" to finalize.

Step 6

Check your CT State email for confirmation of your upcoming appointment.
Attending Your Tutoring Appointment

Attending In-Person

If your appointment is scheduled for on-campus, meet your tutor at the scheduled location. This information is located both on your TracCloud dashboard as well as in the confirmation email you received.

Attending Online

To join the online tutoring appointment, log in to TracCloud and click the link titled “Click here to join your online appointment.” This will launch the online meeting platform where you will work with your tutor.

Note: If you experience difficulties, contact the campus tutoring center directly.
Canceling Your Appointment

Step 1

To cancel your upcoming tutoring appointment, log in TracCloud.

Step 2

From the dashboard, click “List” in the upper right corner to view your upcoming appointments.

Step 3

Find the appointment you want to cancel in the list, then click "X" in the upper right corner.

Step 4

Provide a reason or canceling in the box, then click “Cancel Appointment.”

2098 Art in Public Places

CT State Gateway students embarked on an inspiring project to bring their creativity out of the studio and onto the street. Led by Instructors Peter Bonadies and Vladimir Shptalnik, students created two massive murals—measuring 4×32 ft and 9×20 ft—that adorn the plaza facade at 101 College St, New Haven. The designs beautifully depict the connection between science and art. The special projects class received support from 101 College Street, LLC who held space available for the murals, underwrote every student”s tuition, and the cost of materials.

On the 3rd floor studios overlooking the site, CT State Gateway students transformed their vision into stunningly colorful multi-media murals. Each artwork is meticulously crafted and reflects the skills and diverse perspectives of the CT State Gateway student body. Scientific equipment is integrated into the murals and provides a literal connection between art and science. The students hope the murals will inspire scientific creativity in 101 College Street researchers. Students had the opportunity to meet in person with the building’s developer Carter Winstanley, founder of Winstanley Enterprises. He shared his passion for public art and his excitement for the murals. Meeting Winstanley motivated the students and deepened their understanding of the impact art can have on urban spaces. For CT State Gateway, it’s about breaking barriers and inviting dialogue. The murals reaffirm the importance of art as a universal language that transcends boundaries.
